How to navigate this website

This website, Paris Mosaïque, was inspired by the course of the same name, taught by Professor Christelle Taraud. In this course, we went on historic and sociologic walks in different neighborhoods of Paris to learn about how different communities came to call these neighborhoods home and how France's colonial history played a part in these migrations. For my Bachelor's Honors thesis, I wanted to create these walking tours in a virtual form, so that people, no matter where they are in the world, can also explore these neighborhoods and discover the communities that live there and the intertwining histories of these spaces and the communities that inhabit them.

Due to time constraints, I focused on the Asian communities of the 13th arrondissement (district), who already make up a rich mosaic. However, my goal is to continue this project as part of my Masters and doctorate studies and work with other communities, for example North African, sub-saharan African, and Caribbean, so that I can continue to highlight the diverse mosaic that is Paris.

The purpose of exploring this neighborhood of the 13th arrondissement is to discover the communities that are connected to this space. You are free to explore the site as you wish; the only rule is that you must use a desktop since this experience was not built for mobile devices.

You can choose a theme (History, Economy, Sociology, Identity, Community, Racism & Discrimination), and you are free to change themes whenever you want. As you go through each walking tour, you will find maps, videos, audio clips, photos, and links towards other resources.

I encourage you to take the time to immerse yourself in this multimedia experience, in the hopes that you will find as much wonder as I did the first time I discovered the largest Asian quarter in Paris.

Note: Certain grammar mistakes have been conserved in order to remain authentic to what I heard in the interviews I conducted.
